Highlight of my Day
Born Hunter - The day isn't even half over, but I'm sure nothing is going to even compare to this...After learning about mortgages and loans in the kitchen from my dad, we eyed a groundhog in the yard. We tracked him and I watched him climb into this hole in our shed. The whole led to a false wall so he wasn't actually in the shed. After deciding we didn't have enough time to get the pellet gun (we don't own one, we'd have to go buy it) we ran to the garage and grabbed our leather gloves. On the way to the shed we picked up some 2x4's from the garden. The plan was to open the side door of the shed, which leads to nowhere except this false wall. It's there for decoration, its one of those old wooden sheds. Anyway, my dad would open that and I'd be down by the hole he entered in with my 2x4. "At the first sign of movement, smash the shit out of it," my dad instructed. I had on flip-flops and was afraid he was going to eat my toes, but after psyching myself up for it I raised the 4-foot long 2x4 and was ready for some groundhog bashing...nothing. We have no idea where he went, but it was fun to try to beat an animal with a 2x4!

thats horrible! i understand that the groundhog has no reason to be in your yard or living in your shed. But, smashing its head in with a 2x4, thats a bit extreme. What ever happened to animal control? Could there be another hole under the false wall leading underneath the ground?
Just think you could have you very own groundhog to find out if he sees his shadow. I do have to admit the thought of you beating a groundhog is horrible, but when i picture you and your dad with 2x4's and you beating the groundhog is kinda funny, but still extremely disturbing!

Luckily he didn't feel my wrath, which may have affected my mind/soul for years to come...

we had woodchucks last summer and the humane society will give you a cage to trap them in. then they will pick them up for you every time you catch one. do that next time silly!

When I was little a groundhog and my dog got into a fight. My dad found the groundhog attached to the back of our dog and our dog was running through the backyard - making it look a little jockey and his horse. My dad tried to remedy the situation by throwing (yes you got it), a 2 x 4 at the groundhog jockey to dislodge his from the dog. I think both animals were hit in the rescue attempt and while my dog went down as well, i think she recovered just a little stunned form the whole incident.
